Where's Florrie? And who are these famous
stuffed (not stuffy) historical figures who have kicked her
picture off the front page of the newsletter?
HINT: They match four of the Young Patriots
titles! Meet the latest additions to our Young Patriots-the
three-dimensional versions! Find out who they are (but you're
all smart enough to know by now!) and how you can get one
FREE at the end of this newsletter.
Hello all and welcome to September. We're
a little early this month as on August 27 I am taking off
to China on a special book publishers trip! Our group will
be hosted by Chinese book publishers, and I'm looking forward
to experiencing a culture so different from our own. Learning
about education and libraries in a country that includes more
than 122 million elementary students is also high on my wish
list. I won't bore you with the 150 pictures I know I'll take,
but I'll at least include one in next month's newsletter!
Last month we introduced our newest Young
Patriot-for those who may have been on vacation and missed
"the most famous guy who never invented baseball,"
we've included a mini-encore presentation this month.
Happy Back-to-School!
Warmly,
Florrie

Don't
Forget! Volume 11 of The Young Patriots Series - Abner
Doubleday, Boy Baseball Pioneer - is now available!
This new title portrays the story of young Abner, who as
a boy only wanted to "play base" for endless hours,
but as a man became known as a successful captain and lieutenant
colonel . . . READ ON! |

Celebrate Constitution
Week!
We the People of the
United States,
in order to form a more perfect Union . . .
On
September 17, 1787, fifty-five delegates to the
Constitutional Convention convened for their final meeting
at the State House in Pennsylvania with one thing on
the agenda - signing the Constitution of the United
States of America.
Beginning in May 1787, our forefathers met every day
for four months to amend the Articles of the Confederation.
In doing so, however, they realized that an entirely
new document must be created to specifically state the
responsibilities and rights of the government, the state
and the people of the United States.
The Constitution of the United States of America was
merely four hand-written pages; yet never again in history
has there been such a demonstration of national loyalty,
pride and justice for a country and its people. It would
become the guiding principles to the most formidable
government the world has and will ever know - led by
the people, for the people.
In celebration of Constitution Week, why not read a
biography or two on our forefathers who worked to make
this country what it is today - one of the most powerful
nations in the world. Not only should we give honor
to those involved in penning the Constitution of the
United States; but those who came before them, credited
for the creation of our other "Freedom Documents"
such as The Declaration of Independence.

|
| The Declaration of Independence is said to be
the foundation from which the Constitution was
formed. John Hancock of course was the first and
most famous signature on the Declaration of Independence.
Read about the boyhood adventure of Young Patriot
John Hancock, in John Hancock, Independent
Boy, volume 9 of The Young Patriots Series.

Mahalia
Jackson Lives On!
For Immediate Release.
Former President Bill Clinton has announced that a compilation
of his favorite songs will be available on CD this month (September
2005) through the Clinton Foundation.
Among his favorite songs is "Precious Lord" by
our Young Patriot Mahalia Jackson! Clinton has taken pride
in the past on appreciating all genres of music, specifically
jazz and R & B and this compilation proves just that.
Also included on the CD are "My One and Only Love"
by John Coltrane, "Harlem Nocturne" by David Sandborn,
and "My Funny Valentine" by Miles Davis.
As Mahalia's legacy lives on through this honor of her music
talents, so does her legacy of action. The recent anniversary
of the March on Washington fresh in our minds - as are those
who so bravely contributed to the Civil Rights Movement. Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. so often praised his friend Mahalia
Jackson for her efforts in this cause.
From
truly humble beginnings, Mahalia Jackson rose to become
the Queen of Gospel and Civil Rights Champion. Read
more about Mahalia Jackson in Volume 7 of The Young
Patriots Series Mahalia Jackson, Gospel Signer
and Civil Rights Champion.
