We're getting a jump on the school year by announcing the publication of the newest Young Patriot, Abner Doubleday, Boy Baseball Pioneer. (see full story below) Did he REALLY invent baseball? Well, the author of the book has her own theory....

Introducing our newest Young Patriot Abner Doubleday, Boy Baseball Pioneer!

For Immediate Release

This month marks the famous first shot on Fort Sumpter, South Carolina - August 17, 1863 - which began America's Civil War. Abner Doubleday returned fire first, though few people are aware of that fact. For what Doubleday is most known for is the invention of baseball!

Volume 11 of The Young Patriots Series - Abner Doubleday, Boy Baseball Pioneer - portrays the story of young Abner, who as a boy only wanted to "play base" for endless hours, but as a man became known as a successful captain and lieutenant colonel, strongly opposed to slavery, in the Union army during the Civil War.

Doubleday's contribution to America's favorite pastime has never actually been proven and though he may perhaps be the most famous guy who never invented baseball - try telling that to America! - he will forever be memorialized in the Baseball Hall of Fame as the father of the All-American sport.

Young Abner's adventures in his hometown of Cooperstown, New York include his meeting with General Lafayette, the recovery of a stolen trunk, the thrilling - and forbidden! - ride on the town stagecoach, and much more. Preview the first chapter FREE here.

Plus the educational features that you've come to expect-What Happened Next, Fun Facts About, When Abner Doubleday Lived and What Does that Mean-are all there to enhance your child and/or student's understanding of Abner's story. Take a look at all those additions FREE here.

AND Abner Doubleday, Boy Baseball Pioneer as well as the rest of the Young Patriots Series meets Academic Standards-get details here.

Celebrate Aviation Day . . .

Through Reading of Those Who Helped
Pioneer Aviation History!

W hat better way to fly into another great school year, then to celebrate one of the most profound accomplishments in history? In honor of our great forefathers, and foremothers - Thank you Amelia Earhart - we have the ability to go beyond one of the truest fundamentals in physics: Gravity.

The stories of Young Patriots Amelia Earhart and Eddie Rickenbacker lend youthful reasoning behind the inspiration for and idea of the possibility of flight.

[After creating a homemade "rolly coaster" Amelia] climbed up to the roof for her second try. Again she crawled on the car.

"Coming down!"

Almost before she could catch her breath, the little car rolled to a stop at the end of the track. Amelia jumped off.

"Oh it's grand! It's wonderful Why it's just like flying! I flew!"

Almost instantly it seems Amelia's dream of flight was born.

Eddie Rickenbacker's boyhood aspirations of ceasing the blue skies are just as mischievous. Though he would someday become the winner of the Medal of honor and America's World War I Flying Ace, young Eddie Rickenbacker's first attempt at flight was riding his bicycle off the roof while holding an umbrella!
