Celebrate National Poetry Month! The importance of nurturing the creative thoughts of our children and students through poetry is the focal point of this month as we celebrate National Poetry Month! Think of creative ways to bring poetry into your daily reading activities. Try this! A fun activity to incorporate both history research and poetry is to have your child or student research a past or present poet. Have him/her examine the tone of the poems by the chosen poet. How did the poet grow up? What historical events were happening during the poet’s lifetime that are evident in the poetry? Now that you know more about the poet and how and when he/she lived, write your own poem as if you were that poet, using the same tone and themes.
